BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, has taken a significant step toward integrating blockchain technology into traditional finance. The firm filed with the SEC to launch DLT Shares—a digital share class for its $150 billion Treasury Trust Fund. This innovation represents a major institutional endorsement of distributed ledger technology.

BNY Mellon will serve as the exclusive distributor, leveraging blockchain to track ownership with institutional-grade infrastructure. The offering carries a $3 million minimum investment threshold, squarely targeting sophisticated investors. While not an ETF, this move signals growing convergence between legacy finance and crypto-native solutions.

The filing comes amid accelerating institutional adoption of blockchain infrastructure. Asset managers increasingly view distributed ledgers as tools for improving settlement efficiency and creating programmable financial instruments. BlackRock’s scale lends particular weight to this development.
